History

Winstead United Methodist Church was founded in 1949 by a group committed to establishing a Methodist Church on the western edge of Wilson. Land for the church was donated by two sisters, Miss Clee and Miss Zell Winstead. The new church was named Winstead in their honor.

The first building was constructed in 1949, followed by a sanctuary and educational wing in the 1950’s and a new sanctuary in 1987.

Our current sanctuary was built in 2023 with our first service on November 5, 2023.

In recent years the church has become defined as a vital congregation in ministry in the Wilson community and beyond. We partner with Vick Elementary School, and Seeds of Hope Wilson, as well as other groups that serve the citizens of Wilson.
