Winstead United Methodist Church was founded in 1949 by a group of persons committed to establishing a Methodist Church on the western edge of Wilson. Land for the church was donated by two sisters, Miss Clee and Miss Zell Winstead. The new church was named Winstead in their honor. The first building was constructed in 1949, followed by a sanctuary and educational wing in the 1950’s and the present sanctuary in 1987.
In recent years the church has become defined as a vital congregation in ministry in the Wilson Community and beyond. Looking to the future, in 2007 the church purchased 12.5 acres of land on Airport Blvd where we hope to build a new church facility in the near future.
